Development of the Cuff Pilot has taken some years and has been prompted by the weight of evidence that suggests that cuff pressures in laryngeal masks and ETT’s should always be monitored. Scientific papers have shown an increasing number of adverse effects from over inflation that could lead to injury.
The integrated device has a valve for inflation and contains 3 zones. The ‘green zone’ indicates optimal cuff pressure, the ‘yellow zone’ indicates possible under inflation or a decrease of cuff pressure, and the ‘red zone’ indicates possible over inflation or an increase in cuff pressure. Optimal maximum cuff pressure as recommended for laryngeal masks is 60cm of water pressure. |
